The aura is kind of an involved process. First I have to change parts of the black line to purple, then I have to select all the areas that are notionally "inside" that line and flood fill them on a separate layer. This is complicated when there's something in front of the aura - the line's interrupted, so I can't even select the finished article and use the masking tool to select everything inside the selected area (it's not a closed loop). This is all further complicated by me forgetting that the aura is semitransparent, so I forget to draw parts of the scenery (or even Therm, here - his entire left arm is invisible above the elbow in panel 1).
What I need is to draw Therm, the scenery, his aura and anything in front of him all in separate places, so I can layer them together more easily and apply things like layer glows and so forth ... I'm not sure I see that happening though. I tend to see the pre-computer stuff as more effort, even when it's going to save a whole lot of time at the computer-colouring stage. Well, we'll see.
